Have the winter blues got you down? It’s possible you’re suffering from seasonal affective disorder or you’re just ready for summertime. Either way, winter can be difficult for many people. Even on sunny days, the cold weather keeps us indoors and bundled up. On a warmer day, it’s likely rainy and gloomy. Many times, winter weather can be a trigger for a recovering addict. If you're searching for Asheville alcohol rehab in 2018, be sure to call Legacy Freedom.
If you’re suffering from winter blues or worried that this time of year will become a trigger for you, know that there are ways to take your mind off of the season. Below, you will find several ideas that could help you break away from the winter weather and add brightness to an otherwise cold, dreary, or gloomy day.
Take a long weekend road trip. Any time you’re able to get out of the house, jump in a car with a friend or two and drive to a location for a couple of days, it will instantly brighten your mood. Chances are, there are several places you can visit within driving distance of your home. Do some quick research online to find things like museums, restaurants, parks, bridges and other things that are attractions in that area. Those that live in the western North Carolina area might consider taking a trip to Hot Springs, Banner Elk, or just over the state line into Tennessee. These road trips will leave you feeling happy, refreshed, and relaxed.
Plan a vacation for summer. If you’re not able to go on a road trip right now take time to plan out an entire vacation for summer. Being able to plan ahead for vacations can be a great way to save money, organize, and make sure you’re able to do all the things you were hoping to do while on vacation. For example, Disney World is a great place to visit. However, because of the multiple parks, thousands of hotel options, and other attractions in the area, you may get overwhelmed when planning right before your trip. Start now and take a couple of weeks to plan each part of your trip. Start first with attractions that you want to visit. Make notes on each attraction, when you’d like to visit it, and how much the cost will be. Then, move on to meals. Plan out each restaurant you’d like to visit and what you'd like to try for each meal. Once you’ve done attractions and meals, you can start planning your hotel stay. This can be a time-consuming venture but, in the long run, you will appreciate all the hard work you put into it when your trip goes off without a hitch.
Redecorate your home. Using things you already own, begin re-arranging and redecorating each room in your home. Take a rug from the living room and add it to your bedroom. Rearrange the sofa, love seat, and recliner in your living room. You might even find that changing out curtains in each room will be a fresh new way to liven up your home without having to buy anything. You can even change out decor within your bathrooms and kitchen, as well. Feeling crafty? Take a can of spray paint and paint some knickknacks white, pewter, or gold. Depending on your style preference and items you already own, you might come up with some great ideas for refurbishing things around the house.
We hope these things are on your to-do list now that you've taken time to come up with a few winter activities to keep you busy. Doing so will help you stay away from triggers, seasonal affective disorder, and overall gloomy attitudes during the cold months.
