This year we want you to find a sober friend or two and have a blast, stay away from triggers and a possible relapse, and take in one or more of ideas below! If you have a problem with drinking too much, call Legacy Today and ask about our outpatient Asheville alcohol rehab center.
Stay Sober This Halloween with These Tips!
Go See a Movie - Most movie theaters are slow on holidays and Halloween is no exception. Find a sober friend or two and take in a new movie. If you’re lucky, you might have the chance to see multiple Halloween movies at the theater through a marathon event. Some theaters even play several older horror movies, as well. Whatever your choice of film is, you’ll have a great time spending the evening with friends!
Pass Out Candy - One of the best ways to have fun on Halloween is by passing out candy to trick-or-treaters! Find a friend or family member that lives in a neighborhood, if you don’t live in one yourself, and have a blast! You’ll see all kinds of fun costumes. You can also put on a Halloween movie to watch in between visitors.
Support Group Meeting - If you can’t find a friend to spend the evening with, consider joining a support group meeting. There will be others like you trying to avoid triggers and relapse during this holiday. It’s easier to be with people you can trust to stay sober and never offer you a substance to try. If you don’t have a group you already meet with, try finding one before Halloween night hits. They might even have a party going on at the meeting! What better way to spend this fun spooky night than with other sober individuals dressed up and having clean, wholesome fun?!
Find a Comedy Club - One of the best ways to spend an evening that would otherwise be occupied with partying is to find a great comedy club with friends. Most of the time, places like this are empty on holidays, as others are out being festive. Since you’re trying to stay sober, laughing the night away with friends is much better than partying it away and failing to remember what you did the next morning. In addition, because you’ll likely be the only ones there (or close to it) you’ll get a great show, as the comedian will be so happy to have an audience!
