Physical Relapse | Drug Treatment in Charlotte NC
Failing to manage the emotional and mental signs of relapse during drug recovery can result in entering the third phase. The physical relapse phase involves surrendering to the stress and anxiety, thoughts of drug use and inability to overcome the urge to use drugs. In addition, using drugs again becomes a reality. It’s no longer a thought in the back of your mind. It’s no longer an urge that you’re trying to fight. Physically using drugs becomes the problem at this point of a relapse.
A physical relapse can take weeks, months or years to progress. The problem lies in the inability to overcome our thoughts and emotions. Recovery comes only when we change our thought patterns, attitudes and behaviors. Learning to deal with feelings and emotions, no matter how bad they are, is the only way to lead a happy, healthy life of drug recovery.
As we stated above, the physical relapse phase comes into play when we revert back to using drugs again. Even if drugs are only used once, something must be done to ensure that it won’t happen again. Drug addiction is more like an obsession that is very difficult to overcome once the doorway to using is opened again. Restarting drug recovery, even after only one time of using drugs is a very difficult process.
Thankfully, we have a choice. Just as we did when we decided to enter drug recovery or drug treatment in Charlotte NC, we have a choice to stop using drugs a second time, and recommit to recovery. Using drugs once is a serious problem, but it’s not something that we can’t overcome. It’s not a predetermination that we’re doomed in our recovery forever.
