Welcome back! We are here to talk more about grad night and how you can work with your local high school community and parents to organize a party for senior graduates so they're able to have fun in a safe and sober way.
In our previous blog, we talked about how many schools choose to have the all night party at the school gym. Choosing the location is the first step in overall planning.
Once you determine the location and how long the party will be, many seniors choose a theme to follow throughout the entire process. The theme can be from a movie series like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings or Pirates of the Caribbean. It could also focus on a certain decade like the 1950s or 1960s. To decide on the theme, it's often easier to have a vote on what students would like to see. The initial vote can be various ideas or types of themes. Then, a second vote can be used to narrow down the ideas to one.
Once a theme is picked, food, games and entertainment can all revolve around this. For example, if Harry Potter is chosen for the theme, the gym could be decorated like Hogsmeade or Diagon Alley. Food can be traditional items from the United Kingdom, as well as treats and alcohol free drinks that are mentioned in the book and movies. Graduates can even dress in their favorite house attire or make dress robes to wear throughout the night.
Choosing a theme will help plan the entire evening, as you can see. It's a great way to get the ball rolling and come up with several ideas that will be fun and exciting.
Games and entertainment might include an arcade set up for your tickets and prizes can be won. You can also include a DJ or live band. Again, these are things you might want to get ideas about from the students. They will have great ideas on what they would like to do throughout the entire evening.
There are several interactive games that can be enjoyed throughout the night. Consider having a casino night, complete with dressing up and an old Vegas style theme. You can also have athletic games like ping pong, volleyball, frisbee throw, bowling, billiards or basketball. Other ideas include having contests like limbo, pie eating, hula, trivia, bingo and more.
The ideas are endless when you work together as a community to offer graduates a fun, safe and sober night to help them celebrate their transition into college!
