Stages of Relapse | Substance Abuse Centers in Charlotte NC
Welcome back. In our last post, we talked about relapse and how there are different stages addicts enter before an actual drug use happens during recovery. It's important to understand that there are three stages of relapse that one goes through, but they don't all have to happen. There are ways to stop the last stage of relapse before it happens. Before we talk more about that, it's time to familiarize ourselves with the different stages of relapse. Below, you'll see the different stages.
- Stage 1 - Emotional
- Stage 2- Mental
- Stage 3 - Physical
In addition to understanding the different stages of relapse, also understand that relapse, in general, is a potential part of all individuals who enter recovery. No matter how committed you are to living life sober, relapse is still a possibility. As we mentioned above, triggers will be all around you; even when you least expect it.
Thankfully there are several ways to deal with triggers. Take a look back at several of our previous blog posts to help you learn more about triggers and how you can avoid them during the beginning stages of recovery, and then deal with facing them as you progress into recovery.
If you're interested in learning more about the different stages of relapse, visit back with our blog, soon. We will go into detail concerning each relapse stage in the next few blog posts. If you have any questions for our counselors about recovery or relapse, be sure to contact us.
