Drug Rehab in Charlotte NC: Prevention Tips For Teens Dealing With Peer Pressure

Rely on Your Parents and Other Adults. When you’re a teen, the last thing you want to do is tell your parents every time something bad happens. While you don’t have to tell them everything that’s going on in your life, it’s important to know that you can rely on them to help you make life decisions that can affect your health and overall well being. Know that making the decision to try drugs or alcohol is wrong. Know that it’s OK to talk with an adult about issues that might arise concerning substance abuse. You aren’t alone. Find an adult, a parent or a teacher, that can help you talk out your situation.

Enjoy Life and All That You Do. When you really think about it, life – without drugs or alcohol – is probably pretty great. You have family and friends that care about you and want to spend time with you. Many times, teens fall victim to drugs or alcohol because they’re bored or life seems too complicated to deal with. Get out and volunteer, play sports, learn to play a musical instrument. Learn to enjoy family, friends, and life without adding drugs or alcohol. Don’t allow addiction to change who you are. Be yourself and love all that you do.

Follow the Rules. It’s probably a fact that your parents have set forth a rule that states you’re not allowed to use drugs or alcohol for any reason. You might want more control over your life as you get older, but know that trusting and respecting your parents is the way to a good life. Don’t assume that your parents are being overbearing and controlling. They’re trying to keep you safe and healthy. Talk with your parents about why they don’t want you using drugs or hanging out with certain friends. You’ll find that their rules are for good reason. Follow the rules and you’ll eventually find that they helped you succeed in a happy, healthy life, without drug or alcohol issues.

With all that challenges facing teens and adults in today's time, it's important to make sure they're informed of substance abuse issues as well as, substance abuse prevention and ways to avoid and overcome the peer pressure they might face, day to day.
