Have you ever noticed that, during certain times of the year, depression can't be avoided? Do you often get down and out during cold weather months or during the fall? If so, you might have SAD. Seasonal affective disorder is a condition we've been discussing over the past couple of blog posts. If you missed them, visit back here.
Overcoming seasonal affective disorder is possible with the right help. For those who are interested in talking with our mental health facility about this situation, be sure to contact our therapist in Asheville NC. We are here to help.
Below, you will find a few tips that will help you learn to overcome SAD.
Meditate. Did you know that meditation can actually increase the size of your brain? That's right, it will not only increase brain activity, but also the size of it. Regular meditation can offer a positive vibe that the brain recognizes after longterm use. Even if you only take 10 minutes each day, do so. The change in your mood will be amazing. Don't settle for constant seasonal depression when you can use meditation to help add positivity in your life.
Vitamin D. Especially in the winter, we see less and less of the sun. There are times when we don't even step outside for long enough to soak up some vitamin D. Take time every day to get at least 15 to 20 minutes of sunlight each day. If you can't make it outside for natural sunlight, consider getting a sunlight lamp to put indoors.
Positive people. It's hard to stay in a depressive mood when everyone around you is so happy and positive. Anytime you're feeling down, go visit a friend or family member that tends to stay positive. It will help break you out of your mood. If you don't have any loved ones to rely on during this time, consider joining a support group. This is a great way to find encouragement and be around people who understand what you are going through.
