Use These Natural Remedies for Detoxing at Home
Hydrate with Water
Number one on our list is to hydrate with water. Plain and simple, drugs and alcohol can severely dehydrate your body. This dehydration can intensely magnify withdrawal symptoms during detox. You can get bad headaches or migraines, muscle aches and pains, be fatigued, and more.
Drinking lots and lots of water will help you combat these symptoms. Water is also very beneficial for your health and acts as a natural detoxing agent. The more water you drink, the more chemicals, toxins, and other harmful substances will be flushed from your system. Set of goal of drinking between 80 to 100 oz. of water each day. Even if you're not on a detox plan, you should still be drinking a good amount of water each day.
Stay away from sodas, coffee, energy drinks, and other caffeinated beverages. Some of these are diuretics and will make you even more dehydrated.
You're probably not going to feel like exercising due to withdrawal symptoms, but exercising can speed up the process. Try to exercise for at least 30 minutes each day, an hour if possible. Exercising stimulates organs like your liver and kidneys, plus it will make your body and immune system stronger. Furthermore, this type of physical activity will cause you to sweat more which flushes toxins at a quicker pace. Again, just be sure to stay hydrated.
If you find that exercising is just too much at this time, try low impact options like stretching, walking, and even yoga. Another option for sweating would be to visit a sauna. Sitting in a steam room is about as low impact as it gets.
Drink Ginger Tea Daily
The active ingredient in ginger is a chemical called gingerol. Gingerol is a natural detoxifying agent that induces sweating and helps the body flush toxins. Ginger also helps reduce nausea from withdrawal symptoms. We suggest that you try to drink at least one cup of freshly made ginger tea each day.
Making ginger tea at home is really easy. Just slice one whole ginger root, add it to your tea or coffee cup, and stir in boiling water. Let it steep and cool off, then add honey to make it taste better.
Eating 2 - 3 oz. of dried or fresh seaweed each day of detox can also help you recover quicker. Seaweed contains sodium alginate. This active ingredient and compound chemically binds to leftover drug remnants in your digestive track. It prevents these toxins from further being absorbed by your body. Therefore toxin flushing is sped up through waste excrement.
Dandelion Flower Supplements
Dandelion flower supplements are great for boosting liver detoxification. The reason is because insulin is one of the active ingredients. Insulin enhances the flow of bile and stimulates liver functions that help detox the body. Try to take at least one 500mg dandelion flower tablet with food each day of detox.
You are what you eat, and what you eat will greatly impact how you feel during your time spent detoxing at home. While going through a detoxing phase, you have to lay off the sweets, junk, processed and fast foods. And here are the reasons why. This type of diet is not healthy, provides little to no nutritional value, and slows down the detox process.
What you should do is eat healthy proteins and carbohydrates, good dairy, nuts, and lots of fresh fruits and veggies. If you have a juicing machine, we highly advise using it during your detox phase. A juicer takes raw fruit and veggies and allows you to extract the maximum amount of nutrients.
Below you'll find a list of our favorite detoxing foods that you should be eating:
- Chia seeds, cilantro, parsley, and lemon – These foods actually grab on to impurities in the intestines and help dispose of them before they can be absorbed by the body.
- Kale, romaine, wheatgrass, seaweed, and other green leafy veggies – These options are a great source of fiber which helps to flush out the anti-oxidants in your body. They also boost your immune system and provide other vitamins and minerals.
- Strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries – These are natural anti-oxidants that help fight off disease.
- Yogurt – The probiotics found in yogurt help to keep your digestive system healthy and functioning properly
- Freshly caught fish, avocados, almonds – These foods all contain high amounts of Omega 3 fats. Omega 3 helps to keep your cravings down as well as fight off depression.
As you can see, it is possible to detox at home. While some cases can be very risky to a person's health, following the tips we've outlined in this series will help you be successful.
