More Awesome and Sober Weekend Activities
Indoor Rock Climbing - As you're well aware, Legacy Freedom is a big-time advocate of routine exercise to help you with your addiction recovery. That being said, exercising can also get really boring if you do not mix it up some. This brings us to indoor rock climbing. If you want to try something really safe and exciting, then this might be the one thing you need to try as soon as possible. I just recently went and it inspired me to include this in my list. Not only was it affordable, but it also made for a unique family activity that everyone enjoyed.
Design Your Own Shirts - Want to express your creativity? How about wearable art? There are many websites that offer custom screen printing for your very own shirts. Furthermore, you do not have order big quantities so you can just have one made if you so choose. For a really fun weekend activity, get some of your friends together and come up with some funky tee shirt designs and have them made for a fun outing together.
Video Games - If you're into that sort of thing, there are lots of awesome video games out there that are great for eating up hours of boredom. Games like Minecraft for instance are perfect for the recovering addict, and families as well. You can immerse yourself into a virtual world where you're building different structures and interacting with other players all online. However, some video games have questionable content that could trigger a relapse, so be aware. If you need Columbus OH drug rehab or alcohol treatment, please call Legacy today for help.
Got to a Museum or Aquarium - Take a drive to the city and check out the museums. If you live close to a major city, you'll find all sorts of museums that will allow you to learn and be entertained. For example, you'll have art, natural history, science, city, and local museums to choose from. You might even be lucky enough to live close to an aquarium, or a zoo. If so, this makes for a fantastic weekend adventure, especially if you have children.
Hot Air Balloon Ride - This might sound crazy at first, but taking a hot air balloon ride might be one of the coolest things you ever do. This type of adventure is also a lot more common than you think. Just use the internet and search to see if there are any locations near you that provide short trips.
Go to Garage and Yard Sales - You know the old saying, "One man's junk is another man's treasure," so why not get a group of your friends together and hit up the local garage sales? Now, just so you know, these can start really early in the morning and finish up by noon, so if you want to get the good stuff then you'll need to plan accordingly. Garage sales can also be serious business, so if you do not show up early, you might be left with just the picked over items.
Clean Your House or Living Space - Yep, this one is not all that much fun, but if you need to fill time with an activity then this dreaded chore might be right for you. That being said, sometimes cleaning can actually be therapeutic. This is especially true if you have relapse trigger items still in the home. If you're tired of living in a messy place then take all weekend to get everything cleaned and organized. You'll feel very accomplished and happy afterwards.
Volunteer Your Time - Giving back is a great way to avoid boredom, have fun, be sober, and help others all at the same time. There are so many organizations that need volunteers that you should have no problems finding one that meets your comfort level. One that we like to suggest is volunteering at your local SPCA. Working with the animals will not only give them company, but you'll find comfort in it as well. Animal therapy has been used to treat all sorts of diseases and if you can give back, and benefit, why not take advantage?
Start Your Own Garden - Since we're moving into warmer weather, why not start a garden? Part of your recovery is eating healthy and growing your own food is an awesome way to start and maintain your healthy diet. If you're not into growing veggies, think about planting some flowers or other shrubbery instead. Gardening gives you more responsibility and requires you to stick to a routine; all of which is important with addiction recovery.
We hope these last two posts will help you come up lots of fun ways to spend your free time this weekend. For help with substance abuse, keep reading to see how Legacy Freedom can help.
