Look into other places with activities you may enjoy such as book stores or coffee shops with book clubs or poetry readings. Ice cream shops or cafes are great for hanging out with someone over a scoop of mint chocolate chip or a latte. If you used to hit the bar after work, consider joining a gym and working out instead.
Volunteering is a great way to meet new people. Check out organizations in your area that offer group volunteer activities such as cleaning a park or sorting produce at a food bank. The activities give you something to do while you socialize.
You can still hang out at places that serve alcohol if they have other forms of entertainment, too, such as a bowling alley or comedy club. The point isn’t to stay away from alcohol altogether because that’s impossible. You just need to find other activities to entertain yourself that don’t require having a drink in your hand.
