January Activities for People in Recovery

Indoor Line Dancing

This is a free event that can be fun for people in recovery of all ages. Any and all skill levels are welcome to attend. There's no pre-registration, and the only requirements are to wear leather soled shoes (or just socks) and to have fun. Here are the times:

Not only is line dancing a lot of fun, it's a great way to get some exercise as well. Furthermore, you'll be able to meet some really nice people along the way. This event will take place at the Groveport Town Hall, located at 648 Main Street, Groveport, OH 43125. Call (614) 836-3333 for more information.


Do you love flowers? If you so, then you'll love the exhibit going on at the Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. You'll be able to stroll through their indoor gardens to take in thousands of orchid blooms and other tropical plants. The exhibit is inspired by the Art Deco movement that took place during the 1920s. The prices for general admission are below.

  • $14 - Adults
  • $11 - Seniors (60+), and College Students
  • $7 - Children ages 3 – 17
  • Free - Members, and children ages 2 and under

Adult Coloring

Coloring used to be only for kids, but now there are actually programs for teens and adults who enjoy this artistic outlet. You'll need to bring your own coloring supplies, like crayons, markers, and coloring pencils. Coloring pages will be available for $1 per person, or you can bring your own and just enjoy the fellowship. Adult coloring is an awesome event for those in recovery because it's soothing and relaxing, and allows you to display your creative and artistic side. This weekly event is for people ages 16 and up.

Home Buyer Education

alcohol rehab in Columbus OHAre you thinking about buying your first home in 2017? If so, take advantage of this free Home Buyer Education program offered by OSU Extension, Franklin County.

This free program is designed to help first-time buyers finally own a home instead of renting. This program will be held on January 10, 17, 24, and 31 from 6-8 PM at the CSCC Reynoldsburg Learning Center, Room 130. The address is 6699 East Livingston Ave., Reynoldsburg, Ohio.

Those who attend can expect to learn how to properly make a budget to save for a down payment, apply for a mortgage loan, apply for cost assistance programs, and learn how to generally navigate the home buying experience. Attendees will also get the chance to network and meet with professional lenders, realtors, and insurance agents.

If you're thinking about applying for down payment/closing cost assistance and other grants, then you'll need to attend all four classes to successfully complete the program. This way you'll be able to receive a HUD-certified Certificate of Completion. This certificate is required to apply for financial assistance. For more information, or to sign up, please click here.

Lockdown Escape Room

If you're looking for something new and exciting to do, check out the Lockdown Columbus Escape Room. From exploring an old prison to working a crime scene, you'll find fun and uncertainty around each corner. You'll have to solve puzzles, put clues together, and lots more. This is the perfect event for those that love a mysterious good time.
