Fun And Sober Autumn Activities
Roast Marshmallows And Making S'mores With Friends
Celebrate the cooler temperatures by having some friends over to roast marshmallows and make s'mores. You can make s'mores inside if you have a fireplace, but we prefer doing this fun and sober activity outside and and night. It's a relaxing and tasty activity that's sure to take you back to your childhood days. However, please remember to use proper safety precautions when making fires.
Corn Maze Race
One of the best parts of the fall is the amount of the different things you can do. There are so many fun activities, like getting lost in a corn maze. Get a group of your friends together and divide up into teams, then race the corn maze to see who finishes first. You can even make it competitive and wager something small. Losers buying coffee for the winners is a good place to start.
Take a Scenic Train Ride
Taking a train is just an experience everyone should try. The fall foliage train rides at Hocking Valley Scenic Railway in Nelsonville, OH, is a great way to step back in time by riding in a vintage train. You'll also be able check out some of the local history along the way. Cruise along the Hocking River and Appalachian foothills in either an open air car or the 1920’s commuter coach for stunning views. For those that need AC, there's even a first-class and fully restored B&O coach car.
At Robbins Crossings, passengers can even step off the train to check out the historic settlement. Reenactors recreate what life was like during this time period. You'll see a fully functioning blacksmith shop, food cooking on wood-burning stoves, and hear Appalachian-style music.
Open Fall Foliage Trains are offered Fridays in October, in addition to the regular Saturday and Sunday Schedule at 1:00 p.m. Trips are reported to last about 2 ¼ hours, including a 30-minute stop at a reconstructed 1840’s era village. Call them at 740-249-1452, or visit them on the web at Hocking Valley Scenic Railway.
