September is National Recovery Month so it's time to celebrate your sobriety! Of course, those that are clean might have a silent celebration every day, but why not really honor this amazing accomplishment by having a commemoration?
Addicts are often apprehensive about having a congratulation party for recovery. That's understandable. Oftentimes, social outings or parties can be the very thing that causes addiction to begin with.
Thankfully, there are several ways to celebrate recovery and sobriety without worry about relapse or facing triggers! Below, you'll find several ideas!
Celebrate Sobriety During National Recovery Month
Joining an event that's already taking place during the month of September is a great way to remember your accomplishments in recovery. Support groups, universities and colleges and other organizations will be commemorating this special occasion all month long.
According to nationalrecoverymonth.gov/events, "Recovery Month promotes the societal benefits of prevention, treatment, and recovery for mental and substance use disorders, celebrates people in recovery, lauds the contributions of treatment and service providers, and promotes the message that recovery in all its forms is possible. Recovery Month spreads the positive message that behavioral health is essential to overall health, that prevention works, treatment is effective and people can and do recover."

Another great way to remember your sobriety is by taking time to spend alone. Rarely do we get moments during our busy work week or weekends to sit and reflect. Doing this will help you memorialize your recovery. You'll remember how far you've come and where you still need to go on this lifelong path.
You can also spend a quiet night with loved ones that support your recovery. Grill out and spend time outdoors having fun with family and friends. If going out sounds fun, go bowling, play miniature golf or dine out at a favorite restaurant.
Rewarding yourself during this time is key. Even if you entered recovery eight or more years ago, it's time to celebrate! Take a vacation, have dinner at a fancy restaurant or take another special outing that means something to you. You deserve to reward yourself for your accomplishment!
Turning however you choose to celebrate recovery into a tradition that takes place once a year should be your goal. Why not celebrate sobriety every September? You earned it! Choose to vacation somewhere fun each year or plan a big BBQ with family and friends. Whatever you feel comfortable doing is key and so is making sure you have fun, as well!
Are you a recovering addict planning to celebrate next month? If so, how do you plan to spend your time remembering your journey?
