Bath salts are psychoactive drugs that are becoming more popular each year. They can cause severe intoxication and have extremely dangerous health effects, including death.

Signs and symptoms of “bath salts” can include:

  • Psychotic and violent behavior
  • Paranoia
  • Panic attacks
  • Increased sociability
  • Increased sex drive
  • Increased heart rate and blood pressure
  • Increased energy and agitation

  • Delirium
  • Chest pain

According to, barbiturates and benzodiazepines are prescription central nervous system depressants. They're often used and abused in search of a sense of relaxation or a desire to "switch off" or forget stress-related thoughts or feelings.

Signs and symptoms of barbiturates and benzodiazepines use can include:

  • Slurred speech
  • Slowed breathing and reduced blood pressure
  • Problems concentrating or thinking
  • Memory problems
  • Lack of inhibition
  • Lack of coordination
  • Involuntary eye movements (nystagmus)
  • Euphoria or an exaggerated feeling of well-being
  • Drowsiness
  • Dizziness
  • Depression

Also according to, "Stimulants include amphetamines, meth (methamphetamine), cocaine and methylphenidate (Ritalin). They are often used and abused in search of a "high," or to boost energy, to improve performance at work or school, or to lose weight or control appetite."

Signs and symptoms can include:

  • Rapid or rambling speech
  • Paranoia
  • Nausea or vomiting with weight loss
  • Nasal congestion and damage to the mucous membrane of the nose (if snorting drugs)
  • Irritability or changes in mood
  • Insomnia
  • Increased energy and restlessness
  • Increased alertness
  • Impaired judgment
  • Feeling of exhilaration and excess confidence
  • Dilated pupils
  • Depression as the drug wears off
  • Delusions and hallucinations
  • Changes in heart rate and blood pressure
  • Behavior changes or aggression
